A New Season at Startle
As summer gives way to autumn, there’s a sense of change across Startle. Our galleries are evolving, new collections are arriving and we’re welcoming exciting new artists alongside familiar favourites. In this edition of The Journal, we take a closer look at some of the stories behind the art, share what’s new and give you a glimpse of what’s happening across the galleries this autumn.

Introducing Amelia Coward
From across the room, Amelia Coward's work is all about colour. Get closer and an entirely different world begins to appear.
Created from vintage maps and atlases, Amelia's extraordinary Map Dots transform fragments of coastlines, cities, roads and oceans into beautifully precise three-dimensional compositions.
Working from her Kent studio and drawing upon an archive of thousands of maps collected over many years, Amelia combines colour, geometry and meticulous craftsmanship to create originals that are as fascinating up close as they are striking from a distance.
Introducing Jenni Murphy
Colourful, joyful and packed with tiny details, Jenni Murphy’s paintings celebrate people, places and the stories that connect them.
Her distinctive scenes are filled with character, bringing together everyday moments, familiar settings and a wonderfully playful sense of observation.
Look a little closer and there’s always more to discover, from individual characters to small interactions unfolding throughout the painting. Warm, welcoming and full of life, Jenni’s work has a way of making you want to step inside and join the story.
How Do You X-Ray A Car?
What happens when an artist looks beyond the surface?
Nick Veasey has spent more than two decades using X-ray technology to reveal the extraordinary structures hidden inside everyday objects — from fashion and flowers to motorcycles, classic cars and even aircraft.
For his remarkable 1986 Dodge Ram Cowboys, the challenge involved X-raying the truck in individual sections before bringing them together to create the finished image.
We go behind the scenes to discover how Nick combines photography, science and painstaking craftsmanship to create artworks that allow us to see the familiar in an entirely different way.
New from Bernard
Full of colour, movement and an unmistakable sense of life on the water, Bernard's latest originals have arrived at Startle.
His energetic sailing scenes bring together expressive brushwork and a wonderfully vibrant palette, creating statement pieces that can completely transform a room.
We've recently secured five new original paintings, each capturing the energy and atmosphere that have made Bernard's work so popular with our collectors.
New Autumn | Winter 26 Collection
As the seasons change, so does the art we’re drawn to. Our Autumn | Winter 26 Collection brings together rich colour, warmth and texture with a bolder injection of contemporary Pop Art and photography.
With new editions and original works arriving from brand-new artists and gallery favourites, the collection will continue to evolve throughout autumn and into winter.
Love Reigns by Mr Brainwash
A Centenary Tribute
Created to mark the centenary of Queen Elizabeth II’s birth, Love Reigns sees Mr Brainwash transform a portrait of the young Elizabeth through his unmistakable mix of bold colour, graffiti-inspired detail and uplifting messages. Playful, energetic and optimistic, it’s a joyful tribute to a remarkable life and enduring legacy.

An Evening at Startle, Jarrolds
Join us at Startle at Jarrolds on Thursday 24 September for a relaxed evening and the opportunity to discover what’s new at the gallery.
We’ve been making some changes to the space, with new releases and a fresh selection of artwork now on display. Come along, enjoy a glass of fizz, meet the team and spend some time exploring the latest arrivals.
