Debbie Boon
Debbie Boon is a Norfolk-based contemporary artist known for her expressive wildlife paintings and atmospheric landscapes inspired by the countryside and coastline of Eastern England.
Living and working in Norfolk has had a profound influence on her art. From characterful animals and birds to expansive skies, salt marshes and coastal landscapes, Debbie uses expressive colour, texture and movement to capture what she describes as “life and all its visual personality.”
After graduating from Art College, Debbie worked in graphic design and as a children's book illustrator before establishing herself as a painter. That illustrative background remains evident in her instinct for character and composition, while her energetic use of heavy-bodied acrylics gives the work its distinctive depth, vibrancy and sense of movement.

From Wildlife to the North Norfolk Coast
Debbie Boon's paintings are rooted in observation. Whether capturing the alert expression of an animal or the shifting light across the North Norfolk coast, her work is less about reproducing what she sees and more about capturing the character of a subject or place.
Living and working in Norfolk gives Debbie an extraordinary landscape on her doorstep. Expansive skies, salt marshes, beaches and the constantly changing light of the coast have become an important part of her work, appearing alongside the wildlife paintings for which she is so well known.
Places including Holkham, Wells, Morston and Burnham provide inspiration, but these aren't intended as precise records of a particular view. Colour, atmosphere and memory are allowed to play their part, creating paintings that feel unmistakably connected to Norfolk without becoming conventional landscapes.
Painting With Energy
Debbie works primarily with heavy-bodied acrylic paint, building her paintings through layers of colour, texture and glaze.
There is an immediacy to the process. The composition is established quickly before further layers begin to add depth, light and detail. Brush marks remain visible, colours overlap and areas of the painting are allowed to retain the energy with which they were first made.
That approach is particularly effective in her wildlife paintings. Rather than becoming overly detailed studies, the animals retain a sense of movement and personality — a moment observed rather than a subject posed.
A Sense of Place
The same energy runs through Debbie's seascapes.
North Norfolk is a landscape defined as much by its skies as its land. Weather moves quickly, horizons stretch for miles and the relationship between sea, marsh and sky can change completely with the light.
Debbie uses those elements as a starting point, translating them through colour and expressive mark-making into paintings that capture something familiar about the coast without simply describing it.
It's what connects the two sides of her work. Whether the subject is wildlife or landscape, Debbie is ultimately painting character — the personality of an animal, the atmosphere of a place and the fleeting moments that make us stop and look.
