Craig’s iconic subject matter of children at play is nod to his own childhood in the 60’s where he enjoyed riding his bike and reading comic books.

Inspired by his own upbringing in the 1960s, Craig’s work draws heavily on a nostalgic era of comic books, imagination, and outdoor play. Riding bikes, reading comics, and inventing worlds of adventure all inform the distinctive storytelling found throughout his collections today.

Craig’s creative journey began in the late 1980s, when he fulfilled a childhood ambition by working as an illustrator on pre-school comics. During this time, he brought to life beloved characters including The Shoe People, The Wombles, Huxley Pig, and Bangers and Mash. His career soon evolved into animation and design within the video game industry, where he worked on iconic characters such as Zorro, The Hulk, and The Hurricanes. It was through this work that Craig discovered a natural talent for sculpture, creating 3D figures for animation before going on to establish himself as a freelance sculptor. He produced highly detailed models for major commercial ranges, including Doctor Who, Harry Potter, and Me To You, further refining his understanding of form, character, and movement.

Today, Craig Davison is widely recognised for his original paintings and limited edition prints, which blend figurative art with a powerful sense of nostalgia. His signature style, where children cast the shadows of iconic superheroes, resonates with collectors across the UK and internationally, evoking themes of imagination, identity, and the heroes we carry within us. Working primarily in acrylic on canvas, Craig combines expressive brushstrokes with a carefully controlled palette to create depth, movement, and emotion. Each piece invites the viewer to reconnect with a simpler time, where imagination transformed the ordinary into the extraordinary.

As Craig himself says: “Ideas come from everything and anything. Everywhere I look, images and ideas are lining up to be used.”
