Artist Profile

Stephen Graham is a South African-born contemporary artist and designer best known for turning everyday pop-culture icons into meticulously crafted, jewel-like artworks. A graduate of Central Saint Martins (2003), he forged his approach across the UK and South Africa, blending studio practice with “experiential” design disciplines.

Graham’s signature “pin art” compositions are built from thousands of precision-set metal pins, many capped with crystals, to form luminous three-dimensional images that shift with the light. Alongside these relief pieces, he creates shimmering works on paper using acrylic inks finished with diamond dust, amplifying surface sparkle and depth.

Themes from advertising, fashion and classic Pop run through his practice; logos, perfume bottles and cultural emblems are recast with wit and glamour, inviting viewers to look again at the symbols that shape modern taste. A background in theatre design informs the narrative staging of his images, while his self-described “Pop Crystalism” underscores the tactile, celebratory quality of the materials he employs.

Stephen Graham’s limited editions and originals are collected internationally and are available in the UK through leading contemporary galleries, including Startle Gallery’s curated selection.
