Artist Profile

Simon Kenny is a British contemporary artist celebrated for powerful abstract paintings that explore light, movement and emotion. Born in Dublin in 1976,

Kenny developed an interest in art from an early age, with his grandfather introducing him to drawing, perspective, colour and composition.

Rather than depicting specific landscapes, Kenny creates atmospheric worlds that sit somewhere between the familiar and the imagined. Sweeping passages of colour, dramatic contrasts of light and richly layered surfaces can suggest horizons, storms and even distant galaxies, while leaving the interpretation deliberately open to the viewer.

Working intuitively with brushes, palette knives, poured paint and layers of transparent colour, Kenny embraces an element of unpredictability in the painting process. Each work develops through a balance of control and spontaneity, resulting in compositions filled with depth, energy and movement.

His continuing fascination with nature, light and the cosmos has become a defining characteristic of his work.
