Startle is an independent gallery showcasing artists and creators from across the UK and around the world. The gallery portfolio includes stunning Pop Art from Pure Evil, the ethereal abstract landscapes of Nicole Rose and Giles Ward’s contemporary aquatic still lifes.
Startle has the support of acclaimed art publisher, De Montfort Fine Art, giving the gallery access to a range of international artists including Fabian Perez, the Connor Brothers, Craig Alan and Tom Butler, and the opportunity to showcase pieces in addition to what is displayed on the walls of the gallery. When you visit, the Startle team would be delighted to show you the full range of pieces available from each of our featured artists.
Startle’s range encompasses everything from the traditional British Impressionism of Sherree Valentine Daines, to Dan Pearce’s acclaimed Pop / Street art. There are dramatic florals from Canadian artist Elena Henderson and original pieces from the UK’s leading extreme artist, Philip Gray. The portfolio also includes the UK’s most popular artist, Doug Hyde, who is currently celebrating his 20th anniversary, through to Joel Poole, whose unique painted mid-century furniture launched during lockdown. The gallery also offers beautiful sculptures, bronzes and unique furnishings.
The recently refurbished space is spread over three floors, each one providing a unique aspect from which to view the works. The welcoming ground floor, with windows opening onto the streets of the busy market town, provides a light bright environment and an opportunity to see the ever-changing portfolio on offer.
The first floor is a winding quirky space of original Georgian features with pockets of display space providing a surprise at every turn. This floor also includes a viewing room where you can see your purchases in a changing environment while relaxing on our comfortable sofa.
By descending on a unique twisting staircase to the lower level, the art lover will enter the cellar where larger pieces can be viewed with no distractions. Startle’s opening weekend, saw this space filled by street art from Mr Brainwash, photography from Richard Heeps, Troika’s striking female forms and Ian Holdsworth’s digital media.
Startle’s offering will always include a wide range of international talent, but the gallery will also strive to support the community in which we are based and is delighted to feature local artists such as Debbie Boone and DMac, as well as views of familiar spaces from experienced landscape artist, Ben Payne and his focuses on Cromer, Holkham Beach and the Wells seascape.
